Air Freight Markets Show Improvement

International air freight volume grew by more than 6 percent in November compared with the same month in 2012, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported.
November's performance continues an improving trend in the weak air cargo market, IATA said. Airlines reported steady gains in cargo volume during 2013, IATA noted. All regions of the globe reported growth except for Latin America and Africa. The strongest performing region was the Middle East, according to IATA.
North American carriers reported a 2.5 percent improvement in freight demand during November, IATA said. For U.S. carriers, "Business activity indicators in the manufacturing sector have been improving in recent months, recovering from any adverse impacts of the government shutdown in October. Nonetheless, the outlook remains challenging — rates of expansion are considerably lower than they were at the beginning of 2013."
