Narrabri-to-Sydney air route,Vincent Aviation wants

Top End airline Vincent Aviation has applied to the New South Wales government to operate flights between Narrabri and Sydney.

The Minister for Transport, Gladys Berejiklian, last month revoked the exclusive air licences of Brindabella Airlines for Moree, Narrabri, Cobar, Mudgee and Cooma after the company collapsed owing millions of dollars.

Vincent Aviation currently flies between Darwin, Groote Eylandt and Cairns.

It also ferries Fly-In-Fly-Out mine workers across the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia to Jabiru, Halls Creek, Fortescue and Bootu Creek, and runs a charter flight operation to tourist destinations in the country's Far North.

Air regulator, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, says it will issue an Air Operators Certificate, but only if Vincent Aviation can demonstrate it has safe planes, strong maintenance, good pilot training and adequate terminal facilities.

A CASA spokesman says the process could take up to a month.

It will involve verification of documents, several site inspections and a "proving" flight between the two destinations to observe Vincent Aviation's passenger handling and service delivery.

In a statement, a Transport for NSW spokesman said Vincent Aviation applied on Christmas Eve to provide services between Narrabri and Sydney.

He said Transport for NSW is seeking further advice from the operator, as required by the licence application process, which includes the need to secure the necessary CASA approvals.

The statement goes on to say the temporary Narrabri licence is for the first quarter of 2014.

Transport for NSW says it is also consulting with the community regarding the longer term arrangements for air services.
